Because of the efforts of Joe and Lois Lemmons, on February 15, 1981, ten individuals began meeting at the Freehold YMCA for regular Sunday worship services and Bible classes.
In August 1983 the congregation began its quest to find a permanent home. On Sunday, December 2, 1984, approximately 98 people gathered together to worship in its new building on Strickland Road. In the fall of 1993 the congregation added a fellowship hall and six classrooms to accommodate its expanding needs.
Through the years, in addition to worship services and Bible classes, the congregation has endeavored to reach out to the community through various programs, including gospel meetings, guest speakers, seminars on marriage and family, teen events, and its annual Vacation Bible School.
On October 24, 2000, evangelist Tae Whan Lee began an outreach to the Korean community, which now offers Sunday worship services and Bible classes.
In June of 2008, the Freehold Church of Christ opened its doors to an Hispanic congregation led by Jose Davilla. They also offer Sunday worship services and Bible classes to the Hispanic community.
The Freehold Church of Christ has grown tremendously over the years by following "The Great Commission," found in Matthew 28:16-18. In accomplishing this, it has allowed us to offer a variety of diversified services to meet the needs of our community and the world.
A Great Commitment to the Great Commandment with a Great Commission will grow a Great Church.
